Arranging an event is a lot of hard work. It requires hours of planning and, in order to make it successful, and endless attention to detail. An event could be anything from a media dinner for six people to a gala banquet for 1000 people. No matter what the occasion, there are certain basic guidelines that should be followed.
This two day accredited skills will equip the learner with skills to assist in the planning of an event. The learner will also be introduced to various types of events and how to compile comprehensive checklist to ensure smooth planning and implementation.
This skills programme will focus on a full range of events including conferences, exhibitions, seminars and events on behalf of both the private (corporate) and public (government) clients. The aim will be to introduce and equip learner to plan and implement event management from a strategic rather than tactical approach. Case studies will be used as examples to transfer knowledge.
In the case of in-house training the practical’s can be done based on actual events of the client.
Programme Outcomes:
By the end of the learning programme the learner will be able to demonstrate, be knowledgeable of and show an understanding of the following skills:
• Understanding events and event management
• Planning an event
• Explaining event sponsorship and preparing a sponsorship proposal
• Creating a budget for an event
• Compiling an event programme
• Managing the production of marketing and communication material for an event
• Designing a menu for an event
• Using event risk analysis to manage the potential risk factors of an event

Assessment:
Learners will have to prove their competence in applying the knowledge, skills and behaviour learnt during class exercises and group work. Each learner must submit a portfolio of evidence (PoE) within a specific time frame.
Certification:
After the successful completion of this skills programme and the portfolio of evidence (PoE), learners will receive a certificate of competence. Alternatively learners will receive a letter of attendance.
